Of Impossible Escapes and Joyful Reunions is the eighth episode of Murdoch Mysteries: The Curse of the Lost Pharaohs.

Summary[]

George narrates how Queen Victoria was to be having a secret visit to Toronto to meet with financiers and discuss threats against the English Empire. The only reason they knew about said meeting was because they were lawmen. However, they were unsure of her true destination, while the enemy knew exactly where she'd be.

Crabtree yells through the vent, calling both Thomas and Julia. After getting no response, he pulls back in defeat. He mutters that it is no use, as they can't hear them or they no longer can.

Murdoch is oblivious to George's musings as he stares around the cell, his timepiece out. He asks George for his as well, and Crabtree wonders uneasily if he'll destroy it, to which William affirms. George protests it was a gift from his Aunt Petunia, but William gives him a choice: death or a broken watch.

William uses the gears to craft a lock pick, and though he tries to explain to George, it makes his head hurt and Crabtree begs him to stop.

Thankfully, he succeeds in unlocking the door, however, two heavyset thugs step in from outside. As the detectives prepare to fight, the lights begin to flicker. Brackenreid appears and challenges them, knocking out one and leaving the other almost beaten, leaving that one to Julia, who hits him as the lights return to normal.

The four reunite, and Thomas shares that they heard Sekhmet had built a device known as a "bio-cannon." Murdoch deduces that the spores used on the Egyptologists could be used on a larger scale with a propulsion device, causing the deaths of hundreds. Julia is shocked by a biological attack on the Queen, exclaiming, "How utterly vulgar!"

The gang resolves to find the queen first, setting off on the Clarissa. Julia warns ahead through the wireless telegraph, and they hope they aren't too late. However, a bomb is below decks...
