The Princess Theatre opened in 1890 as the Academy of Music and was the first building in Toronto to be fully electrified. It was Toronto's first live theatre venue, located on 167 King Street West until 1931.

- Toronto now has a Princess of Wales Theatre at 300 King Street West. The original Princess Theatre once stood three blocks to the east. It was destroyed by fire on May 7, 1915. It was rebuilt in 1917 and operated until 1930. It was finally demolished in 1931.
