- Pratt is married but having an affair with one of his employees, Alice Howard. When Howard is murdered, William Murdoch initially suspects Pratt of killing her but it is later revealed that Howard was killed by Allen Fawkes.
- Pratt himself is later murdered by Edwin Dodd because Pratt was aware that Dodd was dealing unfairly in the stock market.
- During Pratt's autopsy, Dr. Julia Ogden discovers that a childhood accident had broken his pelvis and crushed his testes, thus making him unable to ever father children.
