Charlie Hastings was an elderly man who had been the indentured servant of a couple who abused their indentured servants, introduced in Season 3 of Murdoch Mysteries, portrayed by Myron Natwick.

- Charlie fell in love with the daughter of the couple, Rebecca. When Rebecca's parents objected to the match, she and Charlie resolved to commit suicide by ingesting laudanum laced cyanide. Through a mix-up involving another indentured servant, Rebecca and Charlie ingested laudanum and her parents ingested and laudanum-cyanide mixture. Rebecca and Charlie buried her parents in soil that preserved their bodies.
