Cal Coons is an award winning director/producer/writer and was executive producer (28 episodes) from 2008 - 2010, consulting producer (11 episodes) 2010 and written 7 episodes for Murdoch Mysteries. As co-creator, he developed 51 episode from 2009-2012.
A graduate of the respected Canadian Film Centre, Cal has served as Showrunner/Executive Producer on several major dramatic television series including Murdoch Mysteries for CBC/CITY TV/UKTV/ITV, which he also developed for television. Nominated for numerous Gemini awards including Best Series, Murdoch Mysteries is an international hit, airing throughout the world.
Previously, he has served as executive story editor/director/writer on the award-winning series ReGenesis and has consulted creatively on major dramatic television series such as The Republic of Doyle.
In 2011, Cal turned his focus to primarily working as a director. A member of both the Writers and Directors Guilds of Canada, Cal splits his time between Toronto and Peterborough.
In 2017, Cal Coons becomes the Executive Producer and Showrunner for Frankie Drake Mysteries created by former long-time MM Writers Carol Hay and Michelle Ricci. The same dual function he served during the first two seasons of Murdoch Mysteries.
