The Backlot is a large outdoor set consisting of a constructed intersection of Toronto streets. It includes the facades of many businesses and is frequently used for shooting Murdoch Mysteries exteriors from Season 4 onwards.
The backlot at Sullivan Entertainment has been used by Murdoch Mysteries. Sullivan Entertainment owns and operates its own studio facility and backlot with the largest standing period sets of its kind in Canada.
With Season 6, MM Art Director Armando Sgrignuoli revamped the Murdoch Mysteries' own backlot at CBC studios giving the series its turn-of-the-20th century Toronto streets scenes near Station House No. 4 and in addition offering opportunities for the MM Production Team to create their special effects from the plane crash in Murdoch Air to the Great Fire of 1904 in Great Balls of Fire, Part 1 and 2 in Season 10.
